"Barthold Auerbach said, 'Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.' How true. My parents, Ruth and Jules Vinney,of blessed memory, were huge fans of the arts and especially loved music in all its forms. They established the Ruth and Jules Vinney Special Music Fund to show their dedication and love for The Temple and to support innovative, enriching and premiere programming in the Jewish musical arts. They passed on to me their musical abilities and appreciation, which I share with my husband, Jeffrey Chaitoff, children and grandchildren. I have been a Temple choir member for many years â first, under the fine direction of Bruce Shewitz, and currently, our remarkable Cantor Katherine Sebo. I always have enjoyed Jewish liturgy and singing in the service, but my greatest joy while singing is to peer into the congregation. It is wonderful to see the increase in participation and to realize how moved people are by the beautiful and often haunting melodies. Music is a universal language understood by all."
